Introduction

An other blast of the past - I created the images below between 1995 and 1997.

A command line utility called Fractint to Povray (FRCT2POV) by David Grossman was used to convert Fractint 'Mandelbrot' parameter sets into their equivalent POV-Ray 'mandel' textures. The first 4 images below werecreated with Povray by using this method.

The next 2 images show what you can also do with Fractint output: generate fractal landscapes or ornates. Yeah, today nothing extraordinary but at that time ... wow!

The last image on this page was made with a DOS utility named Picfield (programmed by Loyd L. Towe). This utility works along the same lines as a height field, but it also can convert a color gif image into Povray objects like spheres, blobs or cylinders. And this little program can also produce enough data to choke a horse - that's what the author said!
